General Description:

This position is focused on the overall health, direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of specific engineering and product development projects, ensuring internal and external customer satisfaction consistency with company strategy, commitments and goals. The position will determine planning for quality project execution following Yakima’s product development process..  Additionally, the position will partner with the Yakima and Kemflo product development teams and other groups to ensure design feasibility, requirements of functionality, attainment of profit objectives, and timelines.  The position will plan and manage engineering and product development projects within pre-defined budget and will ensure success by delivering solutions that meets the requirements of functionality, quality, cost, and schedule. Other key aspects of this position contribute to achieving and sustaining the Yakima Strategic Business Plan and Initiatives, global competitive advantage, and profitable market growth strategy

Scope & Responsibilities:

  • Manage assigned projects including; creating and executing project work plans and revising as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements, minimizing exposure and project risk
  • Collaborate with Yakima and Kemflo teams to ensure projects are on schedule, cost, and performance
  • Identify resources needed, coordinate the day- to-day operational aspects of a project and scope, and track and report status and expenses on a weekly basis
  • Apply appropriate Project Management methodology to manage project performance within quality, budgetary, and schedule guidelines; enforce project standards, manage project budget in conjunction with product managers, and ensure project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately
  • Contribute to revenue models, P/L, and cost-to-completion projections; make decisions and communicate relevant project information to superiors
  • Communicate relevant project information to Yakima and Kemflo teams, including holding regular status meetings with the project team, resolving and/or escalating issues in a timely fashion, and communicating difficult/sensitive information tactfully and timely

Specific Duties: 

  • Work with managers to identify project requirements and scope the effort associated with implementing those requirements
  • Plan projects in order to accomplish goals within constraints such as time, cost, and agreed quality standards
  • Schedule tasks, deadlines, and milestones for all stakeholders and resources and provide detailed milestones for all parties
  • Identify and communicate schedule uncertainties and risks for all projects
  • Implement mitigation strategies and contingency plans
  • Coordinate, in conjunction Yakima and Kemflo development teams and other groups and project resources to deliver milestones according to the plan
  • Efficiently and competently manage problem resolution, e.g. scope-creep, changed requirements, missed deadlines, etc.  
  • Establish plans and bring the team back on plan or create a new plan with the assistance of key stakeholders.
  • Develop, maintain, and constantly look to improve development and implementation processes
  • Facilitate all engineering groups to minimize total investment 
  • Ensure all key stakeholders have a common understanding of the project objectives, processes, and results to be achieved
  • Promote a sense of urgency in the planning and implementation of assigned projects so that relevant parties are aware of project’s milestones and importance
  • Monitor and track project progress, communicating status to internal and external resources and taking corrective action when progress deviates from plan.
  • Mitigate team conflict and communication problems
  • Evaluate implementation and maintenance of appropriate project management tools
  • Maintain awareness of new and emerging technologies and the potential application; suggest areas for improvement in internal processes along with possible solution
  • Schedule and conduct weekly team meetings and document meeting minutes
  • Coordinate testing, validation, prototype builds, instruction and packaging development,  and other activities as needed
  • Carry out other duties, responsibilities, and projects as may be assigned, in an effective manner.


  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in completing and managing projects with minimal oversight and against aggressive timelines
  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college/university
  • Project Management Professional Certification preferred
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification preferred
  • Demonstrated competency in using standard project management tools, including schedule, resource and capital management
  • Knowledge of project management techniques and tools
  • Understanding and knowledge of manufacturing processes, test methods and basic machine shop practices, including but not limited to injection molding, vacuum forming, metal fabrication, die casting and extrusions
  • Experience with MRP and product data management software
  • Ability to professionally manage multiple, simultaneous projects and deadlines
  • Must be able to take ownership projects and complete those projects accurately, cost efficiently, and on time
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Quality, basic understanding of 6 Sigma, Lean and continuous improvement tools and techniques
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience managing engineering and/or product development projects
  • Written and Oral Skills:  English mandatory.  Bilingual fluency: Mandarin Chinese desirable
  • Advanced level with P.C.’s: Microsoft Office Suite; Outlook; PowerPoint, MS Project
  • Solid knowledge of how to get things done within all Management levels of the organization while considering their value and motivation
  • Ability to successfully lead cross functional teams 
  • Excellent organizational skills, analytical ability and attention to detail
  • Ability to cooperatively interact and communicate well with various internal groups and teams
  • Demonstrate the ability to be flexible, accept new ideas and input positively, and be open to new work approaches and processes
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in maintaining confidentiality
  • U.S. citizen or must possess valid INS Green Card
  • Must possess a valid passport and ability to travel internationally without restrictions
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license with no major violations within the last five (5) years

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time
  • Able to perform general office and administrative duties: copying, filing, using a telephone, etc.
  • Able to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, at the waist and reach on a daily basis
  • Able to safely lift and move up to 80 pounds occasionally  
  • Must have corrected vision to 20/30
  • Must not be color blind
  • Must be able to distinguish colors and tints
  • Requires close vision abilities
  • Must be able to work overtime and/or weekends as required
  • Travel as required, approximately 25% of time domestic and 10% international
  • Must be able to travel domestically and/or internationally via commercial carrier
