Multisport Soft Packs, Expanded Cargo Box Line, Upright Bike Mounts, and Revamped Ski Line Gives Consumers More Convenience and Versatility

BEAVERTON, Ore. (October 2006) -- Yakima, an innovator in vehicle racks for boats, bikes, cargo boxes and winter sports gear, is introducing the next generation of top-of-car vehicle racks and gear transport solutions at SEMA, Oct. 31-Nov 4, 2006 (South Hall Booth # 32445). For Jeep Wrangler enthusiasts, Yakima is launching its first product line for both soft and hard top vehicles giving consumers choices they did not have previously for transporting their favorite toys.

“We are all about providing solutions to enable consumers to easily transport their gear to their favorite destinations,” said Mike Steck, senior marketing director at Yakima. “This top-of-car line is sleek, quiet, durable, functional and consumer friendly. Our design language sets a new industry standard for this category by paying close attention to key product details and giving performance where it counts.”

Jeep Wrangler Options – For Soft Top and Hard Top

For Jeep Wrangler Soft Top/Roll Bar applications, Yakima will introduce its Low Rider Max and Claw 2 system, an interchangeable part that ensures a custom fit for factory racks, as well as a Control Tower system with a track for Jeep Wrangler Hard Top applications.

“Outdoor enthusiasts can now hit the road in style with this multi-sport, multi-cargo transport system for Soft Top or Hard Top Jeeps,” said Jeff Johnson, automotive sales and marketing manager for Yakima products. “Our rack systems enable consumers to use Yakima’s Mega Warrior Cargo Basket with Yakima off-road accessories (hi-lift jack lift, axe/shovel brackets), in order to hit the road with the best performance possible.”

FarOut, GetOut and GetOut Pro – Soft Packs for Durability and Versatility

For the first time, Yakima is launching a series of three soft packs that gives consumers distinctive choices for transporting their gear. The FarOut (MSRP: $199) is designed for heavy use with gear-intensive activities or in harsh weather where consumers prefer not to load gear into the bag while it is on top of the vehicle.  It features: back-pack straps enabling consumers to transport the pack from his or her vehicle to their destination, such as a ski lodge; a high quality finish that resists road debris for easy cleaning; weather-resistant sealed seams; grab handles for easy lifting and loading; an inside accessory pocket plus dividers to organize gear; anchor points for easy vertical-hang storage; oversized pull tabs with zipper lock-loops and a soft hook and loose strap that keep straps bundled during travel.

It provides seven cubic feet of storage space and can be used three ways: as an on-car cargo carrier, for hauling/travel and/or as a hanging gear organizer. Modular interior dividers act as shelves when the bag is hung from its endpoint anchor or as dividers when used horizontally during transportation. The FarOut has a premium quilted lid and base to protect the gear and vehicle.

The GetOut Pro (MSRP: $159) and GetOut (MSRP: $99) each provide 13 cubic feet of carrying capacity.  The GetOut Pro is designed for frequent use in extremely tough weather and can be attached directly to factory racks, raised side rails or used in combination with Yakima’s LoadWarrior and MegaWarrior products. Features include: a high quality finish for easy cleaning of road debris; weather resistant sealed seams; and over-sized pull tabs with zipper lock-loops in addition to the soft hook and loop strap tabs that keep straps bundled during travel. In addition, the GetOut Pro has a cross-padded base and lid for durability and wear resistance, delivering superior protection.

The GetOut is designed for the price-sensitive user that needs a last minute solution for carrying gear on top of their car. Offering exceptional value, it features integrated wear-resistant base padding to prevent scratches on the vehicle, over-sized

Customizable Cargo Boxes in Two New Sizes

“We have taken one of our best selling product lines and raised the industry standard,” continued Johnson. “Our new design language again comes into play in the SkyBox series, with: a lid using Endo-Skel™ that is three times stiffer than previous models facilitating a single hand closure; an aero-dynamic shape for less noise and superior looks; super latch security; a re-enforced nose cone for airtight travel; and Easy-Edge™ for better grip in wet and cold conditions. With these performance features and attention to detail, the SkyBox is the best package on the market today for top-of-the-line performance solutions for transporting their gear.”

FatCat 6 and FreshSesh
Boasting the largest capacity of racks in this category, the FatCat6 holds six fat powder skis or four snowboards at one time. Incorporating Yakima’s proprietary design language, this rack’s integrated ski left technology keeps larger boots and bindings off of the vehicle’s roof. Aerodynamic nesting arms and a unique internal hinge system enables this rack to maintain a low profile while in use, reducing noise and drag on the vehicle. Universal mounting attachments makes this rack versatile for round, square and factory bars. MSRP: $199.00.

The FreshSesh gives consumers a chance to customize their racks with one of two sticker pattern options: Urban Graffiti or Bubble Gum Girly, both of which are included with the purchase. MSRP: $140.00. The rack holds up to four to six pairs of skis/boards and attaches to most factory racks with a universal mounting system.

HighRoller – Upright Bike Mount

After the successful integration of the Sprocket Rocket top-of-car fork mount, Yakima extended the design language initiatives into the upright bike mount category and thus produced: The High Roller. Unlike the Sprocket Rocket, this mount gives consumers the option of not having to take off the front tire, a big advantage for quicker and easier loading compared to traditional fork mounts, noted Johnson.  In addition, it folds down when not in use for less noise and drag. A quick squeeze of a button adjusts the mount for different wheel sizes ranging from one inch to three inches, and a single knob is used for securing the bicycle with a quick release. A wheel tray slides in an independent channel to carry long or short bikes with no tools required for assembly.  The bike mount comes equipped with a SKS cable lock for worry free security. A double-sided wheel strap enables use on either side of the vehicle. (MSRP: $169.00)  May also want to tie it in to the successful launch of the sprocket rocket
