SkyBoxes and Top of Car Soft Packs Showcase Latest in Customization TrendBEAVERTON, Ore. (January 22, 2007) – Building upon its momentum as a leading provider in gear transport solutions in the winter sports category, Yakima will introduce the FatCat6 and FatCat4, the widest mouth ski and board mount currently on the market and the FreshSesh, a customizable ski rack with two sticker pattern choices, at the Snowsports Industries America tradeshow, January 22-25, 2007 in Las Vegas. In addition, Yakima will unveil two new sizes of its popular SkyBox Series and an entirely new line of top of car soft packs, including the FarOut, GetOut Pro and GetOut. All will be on display in booth #B1392.
“Yakima is all about combining the best technology with the soul of the Yakima brand and our customer,” said Mike Steck, senior marketing director for Yakima. “We looked at ease of use and ergonomics and refined this season’s products down to the smallest details. Whether it’s carrying an extra pair of skis or boards for fresh powder or piling in a car with ten of your best friends, Yakima has solutions that make sense and get it done.”
The FatCat line boasts the largest capacity racks in this category. The FatCat6 holds six wide pairs of powder skis or four boards, while the FatCat4 accommodates four pairs of powder skis or two boards. Incorporating Yakima’s proprietary design language, this rack’s integrated lift technology keeps larger bindings off of the vehicle’s roof, preventing scratches.

Aerodynamic nesting arms and a unique internal hinge system give this rack a low profile while in use, reducing noise and drag on the vehicle. Universal mounting attachments make this rack versatile for round, square and factory bars. “Compared to the competition, no rack can hold as many skis or boards with this much style,” continued Steck. MSRP: FatCat6: $199.00; FatCat4: $189.00.
Yakima’s FreshSesh is a solution for a younger customer fascinated by customizable products. The FreshSesh, offered in a white finish, gives consumers a chance to customize their racks with one of two sticker pattern options, Urban Graffiti or Bubble Gum Girly, both of which are included with the purchase. The rack holds up to four to six pairs of skis or four boards, and attaches to most factory racks with a universal mounting system. MSRP: $140.00.
The PowderHound, the most popular rack family in the snow line, has a new finish for enhanced weather protection and a universal mounting attachment ensuring rack compatibility on almost any car out-of-the-box. The PowderHound holds up to four pairs of traditional skis or two snowboards, while the Big PowderHound accommodates up to six pairs of traditional skis or four snowboards. Both mounts have an ergonomic lever for easy opening, and enhanced rubber padding at gear touch points, ensuring that skis and snowboards are securely mounted. MSRP: PowderHound: $100.00; Big PowderHound: $120.00.
Responding to consumer needs, Yakima is introducing two new sizes in SkyBoxes, the SkyBox 12 (12 cubic ft.) and the SkyBox 21 (21 cubic ft.). The narrow box shape of the Sky Box 12 is ideal for carrying skis and boards. The lid, three times stiffer than the competition, has a single hand closure that is quicker and easier to use in wet weather conditions, especially in the midst of a snow storm.

Both new sizes come in a standard and pro version and feature consumer-friendly and customizable accessory options including: a long-lasting internal L.E.D. light for increased visibility; a durable cargo net to keep gear secure; a removable gear pad for increased gear protection; and a low-profile wall mount for convenient box storage when not in use. MSRP: SkyBox 12: $339; SkyBox 12 Pro: $439; SkyBox 21: $519; SkyBox Pro 21 $619; Accessories sold separately.
For the first time, Yakima is launching a series of three top of car soft packs that give consumers distinctive choices for transporting their gear. All packs attach directly to factory racks, raised side rails or can be used in combination with Yakima’s LoadWarrior and MegaWarrior products.
The FarOut (MSRP: $199) provides seven cubic feet of storage space and functions in four different ways: luggage that can be checked as baggage on an airplane; safe storage for hauling gear on vehicle roof; off-car transport utilizing back pack straps; and gear organization through use of vertical anchor points. The back-pack straps enable consumers to transport the pack through an airport or to a ski lodge. Additional features include: a high quality finish that is bug resistant for easy cleaning; weather-resistant sealed seams; grab handles for easy lifting and loading; a premium quilted lid and base to protect gear and vehicle; oversized pull tabs with lockable zippers and a soft hook and loop strap that keeps straps bundled during travel. When not in use, anchor points provide an alternative to use the pack as a hanging gear organizer, where modular interior dividers work as shelves.
The GetOut Pro (MSRP: $159) and GetOut (MSRP: $99) provide 13 cubic feet of carrying capacity. The GetOut Pro is designed for frequent use in extremely tough weather with a high quality finish for easy removal of bugs. It has weather resistant sealed seams, over-sized pull tabs with lockable zippers and soft hook and loop strap tabs that keep straps bundled during travel. The GetOut Pro has a cross-padded base and padded lid for delivering superior protection from water and road debris.
