Q: Can I use WideBody Brackets on my vehicle?
A: Look in the Fit List to see what is recommended for your vehicle. Brackets are for custom installation in areas where we don’t have a specific recommendation, such as on camper shells (caps, toppers, whatever they call them in your neighborhood). WideBody Brackets are not appropriate for production vehicles. Our line of brackets and tracks can provide solutions for the hundreds of unique ways customers want to mount their rack, but it’s your judgement call to decide if they are appropriate for your purpose. We will likely have ways to carry your gear that doesn’t require a permanent installation. Q: What are the dimensions of the bracket?
A: The bracket is about 5-1/2” wide by 2” inches high, and extends out from the side 1-1/8”. Fender Washers for the inside are 1” diameter, 1/4-20 stainless steel bolts are 1” long.
Q: Which tower do I use?
A: Ues only 1A Raingutter Towers.
Q: What is the difference between the SideLoader and WideBody bracket?
A: In general, the WideBody extends outward more to give added clearance for square-sided shells and may make it possible to mount the bar lower to the roof. The SideLoader fits in tight spots better and has less visual impact. There is no significant difference in load capacity.
Q: Is it better to bolt a bracket to the top or side of a shell?
A: We make both to provide solutions for many issues, such as, to avoid an area of double-wall (hollow) construction. The strength depends on what it is mounted to, rather than the bracket.
Q: What is the weight limit for WideBody Brackets?
A weight limit can only be established through testing. It varies by the strength of the shell, quality of the installation, and too many other factors to guess. A: This is another area where your judgement will be called upon.
Q: How many bolts are used/holes are drilled?
A: There are four holes per bracket.
Q: Does this system have a backing plate?
A: Four 1” washers do the trick.
Q: What type of waterproofing is used?
A: We use silicon to seal up the bolt holes.
