Great rack for road and leisure bikes, though not quite so versatile/easy to use for some high-end mountain bikes, depending on axle (fine with 9mm QR front axles). You're left with a front wheel to stow, of course, but I just put mine in a wheel bag and sling it in the back: fine even if muddy. My Frontloader mounts to Thule Wingbars on a Seat Ibiza SC: good fit to the bars, no problem with the tailgate. Overall, a great product - certainly a lot better than taking the wheels off and putting bikes in the back!

So I like this rack overall, I use it frequently and I can get my bike on the roof quickly and remove it quickly so it doesn't waste a lot of time.

My main complaint is the locking skewer. It's an external cam skewer, and it doesn't clamp as securely to the front fork as almost any actual quick release skewer, particularly like the internal cam skewers that Shimano or Campagnolo have been making for many decades. On top of that it is wearing out making it have less and less clamping force. It's somewhat ridiculous as it's much larger & heavier than a wheel QR so it should be able to be built with large clamping force and great durability.

I suppose I need to talk to Yakima and get a replacement, but my experience is these skewers will be worn out in a season if you were to mount/unmount your bike 3-4 times a week so maybe it's time to look for a locking skewer from another company that is a more reliable/durable design.

Fit guide recommended for my 2010 Honda CRV, but the hatch hits the back of the rack when in place and pops the plastic guard right out. Haven't scratched the rear hatch yet...but used in this configuration (front facing), its just a matter of time. Going to HAVE to reverse the direction...though much less sexy aesthetic. Make the rack 2-3inches shorter Yakima! Wouldn't affect the bike sitting on the rack at all. Otherwise...awesome product.

I installed one of these on my 2006 Nissam Murano with the factory crossbars and so far, it has been working like a charm. Installation was straightforward, it is easy to use, and the locking skewer adds a little peace of mind (like when I leave the bike on the rack in my workplace's parking lot). I have also taken three 1,000+ mile road trips since getting this rack and again no issues, even at highway speeds (well, other than the bugs).

I have two of these on my VW Golf with the VW base racks. The VW base racks are huge and are a funny not-quite-square shape and this was the only rack I could find that would fit them. The rack is easy to install and works pretty well on my road bikes and even on my 15mm through axel mountain bike. Only two complaints I have are: Even when I tighten the rack down as much as possible the bikes still wobble like crazy. I dont think they would come off or anything like that but sometimes the shaking back and forth make me a bit nervous. The other thing is that its a bit of a pain to lock the racks with no bikes on them. When you take the bikes off you have to screw the skewer down enough so that they are tight on the rack when you lock them otherwise even with the skewers locked you can just unscrew them and steal the racks. This is really annoying if you are moving the bikes alot since you constantly have to be adjusting the skewers back and forth. Would be so much better if you could keep them where they are. Putting the bike on would be way faster.

Ordered this based on the recommendation of the selection wizard on the site. The product is easy to install, but, on a Hyundai Elantra GT, equipped with whispbars, which has a hatchback, the attached spoiler hits the back of this rack. So, it is unusable under those conditions. If this would have been a touch shorter (1.5" - 2") this would have been a great product.

Two Forklifts were added to my existing round-bar setup this summer. They were super easy to mount to the rack and even easier to load / unload the bikes. The bike mounts are light weight, have a great fork mount system that has a long-travel quick-release to get over safety tabs without having to readjust. Locking the bikes was easy and secure using the standard Yakima lock cores. My first road trip with the rack logged almost 800 mi around Northern Maine carrying two very different size road bikes (48cm and 60 cm frames). The racks are very secure and I have no complaints! I will be adding the front wheel mount to the rack so that I don't have to keep stowing them in the car.

Had one for a couple of years, just bought a second one. Vehicle is a 2011 Toyota Sienna XLE with factory aero crossbars. Very simple and sturdy attachment, no tools required. Hold bike very securely with little wind noise, no issue in car washes. Only problem (noted by others) is the adjustable rear wheel tray. The strap is unsecured when not ratcheted down, and easily lost. The strap should be redesigned with a pull-through tab on each side, so that once it's installed, it won't fall out. Would be a very simple fix. For now, owners can fix theirs by using a zip tie around the strap to prevent it from falling through.
