Maxing out my roof space
Review by bblhed Posted on September 14, 2015I bought my car brand new 10 years ago, I got the optional Yakima rack from the dealer so I could haul my kayaks without having to use the truck. Because I wanted to be able to also haul bikes I went with the Kayakstacker because it would allow me to load two kayaks and two bikes on their own mounts...read more all at the same time. Over ten years and 160,000 miles these have worked great for me I have probably moved my boats over 1000 in this setup and the only time I ever really worried about the boats not being secure enough was the first time I used the system because I was new to it. As a bonus because I have the Yakima round bars I can just pivot these down when they are not in use.
Review by Paddle Mom Posted on June 4, 2015Despite Yakima's intentions, I use this for 4 flat water kayaks of pretty light weights so I'm still under the max weight for the bars. I've had it at least 5 years. It has always been safe and secure on many miles of highway travel. I have it mounted on Thule bars because I had those already. The o...read morenly down side is that it doesn't fold down. Not a huge deal to me because the Thule bar is so noisy when on the car alone that I don't want to leave it on anyway. I leave the stacker attached to the bars and the whole works goes on pretty quick. However if you would be using this rack really frequently and needing to park in a garage, you might find it a bit of a pain. 5 stars for safety, 3 for convenience.
